Table of Contents

Morning all,

We send this newsletter out every two weeks on Monday. It amazes me how quickly two weeks pass and how much there is to update you on. Well, Doha was ace, as usual. Great group of analysts, and it is always fun to do highly tailored work. I also had a lovely trip to Imperial College in London to work with their Master’s students.

On the platform, we’ve got new Tech (we love new Tech!), new content, we’ve had an after-login website redesign.

Assess, learn & conquer

Our aim: To build the leading analyst-focused self-assessment engine!

What drives us to do this? We think it’s a great way to learn, but we also see some very lazy testing on the market.

  • Questions regurgitated from CFA.

  • Questions reinforcing knowledge you rarely use at the desk.

  • Slow feedback. Or no feedback at all!

  • We see poor explanations of answers.

So this is what we’ve developed to address these issues and make things better!

  • Each question gets instantly marked, together with

  • Immediate feedback from me.

  • Full answer analysis and review are provided at the end of the assessment

  • You’re on the clock.

  • Take the test again and again. Each time, we will generate a unique self-assessment for you.

We’ve rolled out the full self-assessment platform. There are 3,000 questions in our bank that can be pulled into the assessments. We’ve split the assessments into subject areas:

How do you find these self-assessments?

  • Firstly, you’ll need a Premium Plus subscription to get full access (we provide a free sampler across all of our subscription tiers):

  • They are in your “Learning Hub”

  • Follow the “Assess, Learn, and Conquer” link on the App landing screen

  • Search “Assess” using any of the search fields

We are still working on an accounting and analysis bank of questions.

We will publish this once we have a decent critical mass of questions.

Check out the video below and see the features and functionality we’ve built into the App:

Check out the revamp of the desktop Learning Hub.

We constantly tinker with the platform's UX, knowing that managing such a large content volume is a tricky equation to balance. We’ve just completed a revamp of the “Learning Hub” page for our Premium Plus subscribers. We are still experimenting with a few ideas before we roll this new UX through our full subscription spectrum.

All feedback is welcome! Drop me an email. We will be action action good ideas almost instantly!

Introducing a New Tech video partner

Off-the-charts editing functionality is now coming online.

EdTech is constantly evolving at a rapid pace. As an EdTech platform, we’ve got to be agile and able to switch from one partner to another as new tech rolls out. We’ve onboarded a new SaaS video editing tool with the best AI transcription functionality we’ve ever seen. The transcriptions are then used to produce dynamic close captions on another level of engagement.

Check out the video below to get a taste of the new video functionality we have available. We still feel we haven’t scratched the surface of this new tech, and we look forward to showing you more over the coming weeks and months.

Strategic analysis tools: A common missing link in the analyst’s toolbox

Strategic analysis tools like SWOT, PESTEL, Porter's Five Forces, and Blue Ocean Strategy are fundamental for understanding a company's internal and external environment, competitive landscape, and innovation opportunities. They help analysts synthesize data into actionable insights and provide context beyond mere numbers.

However, as analysts progress, there is a tendency to shift towards quantitative analysis, focusing on financial models, forecasting, and performance metrics. While important for precision, this shift risks losing sight of the broader strategic context. The initial insights from tools like SWOT and PESTEL offer essential narratives that help in informed decision-making.

Over-reliance on numbers can also overlook the human factors behind data points, such as workforce and culture, leading to misaligned strategies.

Maintaining a balanced approach is crucial to avoiding these pitfalls. Regularly revisiting strategic analyses ensures strategies remain relevant in changing environments. Integrating qualitative insights with quantitative data ensures strategies are both data-driven and contextually sound. Engaging with stakeholders provides qualitative insights that numbers alone cannot capture.

In conclusion, while quantitative analysis is vital, strategic tools like SWOT, PESTEL, Porter's Five Forces, and Blue Ocean Strategy are essential for a holistic view. They ensure analysts consider strategic, human, and innovative aspects, leading to more effective business strategies. Balancing qualitative and quantitative analysis enriches strategic insights and fosters a comprehensive understanding of the business landscape.

Highlights from the back catalog

Now that we’ve built a pretty extensive portfolio of digital assets, we can explore the vault and highlight a few programs you might have missed.

Learn something new now. Excel’s new Checkboxes!

I don’t know if you’ve seen the new Checkbox function in Excel. It's so much easier and more adaptable than what we had before. It's excellent for adding multiple scenarios to your models and turning that model from a static calculator to something more like a model! Watch the video below—you’ll find it a very useful skill in your Excel arsenal!

I’m currently putting together a library of what will probably end up being 300+ Excel Shorts videos. I’ll drip-feed these videos onto our social media platforms and host them on the InsightOne App (as part of the free access).
