Unlocking the Upside #4
Insights, ideas and rants

What have we got for you this week?
Morning all,
It’s been a mad few weeks here at TheInvestmentAnalyst.com. Of course, we’ve added new content to the platform! I also attended the London Learning Technology Conference. We’ve just completed a major UX redesign of the App and enhanced the social community side of the app.
I also want to highlight the very cool program we delivered for a Singaporean-based PE fund across six countries and three time zones. Again, it is fun to teach this content, where we can go beyond what the typical training shops can deliver and react to what the client wants to learn. We are privileged with experienced portfolio company investors, bringing that reality into a classroom of experienced PE analysts and investors.
Do you want to discuss training or fundamental consultancy? Click here or on the image below to book a time that works for you.
We are currently working on a new product that we believe will offer one (if not the) best learning experience in the Investment EdTech industry. I can’t say too much now, but this is something I wish I had as an analyst or a finance student. So stay tuned. We will keep you updated.
Download the InsightOne App today, start your 14-day free trial, and unlock your learning potential. We're here to support you every step of the way.

New App functionality:
The InsightOne Community and App UX Redesign
One of the reasons I set up this platform was to experiment with the ever-evolving technology we are seeing come to the education space and how this technology can improve the learning experience.
Our developers have brought us two new innovations we are super excited about:
The Community: The Community allows our users to communicate with each other and chat with us. You can post your thoughts, ask questions, seek assistance, and make recommendations. It’s very early for us, but I will use this part of the platform to keep you updated on developments and thoughts. It's a bit lonely here, so please do say hi to The Community; we’d love to hear from you!
My Learning Hub: The new “Learning Hub” came out of a major UX redesign of the App last week. I have to thank Amy Calderan for the help and insights on this! The Learning Hub brings all your content and personalization on the platform into one place. Here you will find:
Your performance stats
Your favourites
Your downloads
Programs you’ve started but not finished
Your completed programs

The Learning Tech Conference in London
I went to the Learning Technologies Event last week in London. This was like taking the kid in me to a Toy Fair! It was amazing to see the developments in EdTech. We were exposed to developments in avatar technology. I can’t wait to start playing with expressive avatars that can pick up from a script how to express themselves on video using AI. AMAZING!

We will broaden our video editing technology in the next few weeks by bringing another platform to theinvestmentanalyst.com. The new platform will bring additional flexibility in areas such as dynamic closed captioning and new video editing templates. It’s all about finding the best Technology to maximize engagement.
The other thing I will be playing around with over the next few weeks is Tech, which better allows us to run global virtual classrooms. Zoom and Teams are OK at running virtual classrooms, but they cannot engage and organize the engagement.
New content: Recapping Recapitalization
We’ve got a lot of Private Equity content on the platform. This area has always been a pet love of mine, having been PE-backed as a portfolio company a few years back. It’s always fun to teach this content, having been in the thick of a live deal, and to truly appreciate the difference between banging out the model and creating value in real life!
Last week, I posted a series of videos on leveraged recapitalization. As the interest rate cycle turns in 2024, leveraged recapitalizations are poised for a comeback. PE firms will likely leverage this opportunity to restructure their portfolio companies. Lower interest rates will make taking on debt more attractive, allowing PE firms to rebalance the capital structure and free up equity. This strategy unlocks additional value for them, maximizing returns before exiting their investments.
We’ve also got some great content on IPOs, looking at actionable insights and strategies that should be useful as these routes to market start to (hopefully) open up in 2024.
Coming down the pipe in the next few weeks:
Analyzing reinvestment and the impact on returns
Are the markets efficient? Adaptive markets
How do strategic tools help investment analysts
The engine of LBO models: How to build sources and uses of funds statement
Just click on the images below to be linked to the programs. While we have something like 250+ digital assets available for free on the platform, we are getting close to 2,000. So, if you haven’t got access, sign up for the Premium Plus membership and grab the 14-day free trial.

Highlights from the back catalog
Now that we’ve built a pretty extensive portfolio of digital assets, we can explore the vault and highlight a few programs you might have missed.
Learn something new now. Pull live financial data into your models
Excel lets you connect to a data provider and pull share price data (and loads of other data) into your model. Watch the video below - you’ll find it a very useful skill in your Excel arsenal!
I’m currently putting together a library of what will probably end up being 300+ Excel Shorts videos. I’ll drip-feed these videos onto our social media platforms and host them on the InsightOne App (as part of the free access).
Find your favorites! A New Home
Along with the App UX redesign, we’ve all moved the “Favourite” functionality into one place. You can still “favorite” any program you like, but the “Favourite” playlist now resides in “My Learning Hub”
Click on the “heart” icon, and your favorite programs will be added to the playlist.
